SPRING HAS SPRUNG… WHALES

SPRING HAS SPRUNG AND WHAT A TIME TO GO TO SEA – WHALES WHALES EVERYWHERE

It has been a week since I met with you at the Travel People Show – how time flies.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself at the show and I hope you did too.  The food was also great as always, especially the desserts.

This is my first contact and yes it is a mass mail (I hate them too). I just wanted everyone to have existing rate sheets and access to me in case you have any  queries or want to make bookings.   I will be responding individually to all the specific queries which came up during the workshop but please feel free to contact me with any queries or quote requests.

As I discussed at the workshop, there are two ways of viewing marine life in Plettenberg Bay.

The first is by boat with Ocean Safaris.  We are FTTSA accredited and have just been awarded our long term whale watching permit scoring the highest points in our area.  We hold all necessary public liabilities and our staff are qualified and extremely experienced.

Ocean Safaris boasts large upmarket premises  where your clients can be catered for indoors as well as a marine museum of reconstructed marine skeletons, stuffed pelagic birds and so much more.  Guides join our cruise free of charge and if they choose not to, they have access to a computer station and unlimited internet access as well as unlimited tea/coffee he/she can drink.  If you could possibly forward this mail to your guides who would like to offer our product as an additional activity – I really would appreciate it.  Commission is paid at 20% to all tour guides.  Special rates for large groups.

The second way to experience marine life in Plettenberg Bay is with Dolphin Adventures Sea Kayaking.

Dolphin Adventures is owner run and a great experience for the entire family.  Giovanni is a legend in Plett and you are in safe hands as he has 10 years experience as a professional lifeguard.

Along with my individual follow ups to specific questions posed at the show, I will also be sending out short mails with additional information on Ocean Safaris from time to time.  Hope this will be ok.

REMEMBER,  WE ARE ALL FOR EDUCATIONALS SO IF YOU OR ANY OTHER STAFF MEMBERS ARE TRAVELLING TO PLETT, PLEASE CONTACT ME SO I CAN ARRANGE FOR THEM AND THEIR FAMILY/FRIENDS  TO JOIN US ON ONE OF OUR CRUISES.

New booking system for small Tour Operators

New booking system for tour operators, was recently launched in South Africa. The system doesn’t require downloading or installing extensive software.

Tour operators sign up with EQuoTour and provide company details as well as supplier and customer details once off. A ‘Get Quote Now’ banner is then placed on their website. The information provided is stored centrally, which means it can be accessed 24/7 from any location around the world that has reliable Internet access. Potential customers visit the tour operator’s website and click on the ‘Get Quote Now’ link that directs them to EQuoTour.com with the captured information. The system is branded with the tour operator’s company logo so customers will not be aware they are redirected to EQuoTour.

Customers are able to generate quotes relevant to the services the tour operator offers. Dylan Reevell of EQuoTour says: “It allows customers to compile their own packages according to the accommodation wanted and the services required.” Although it is not possible to book airlines; the tour operator can add links to airline websites or provide estimated prices. The system will automatically email all quotes to the customer. The customer chooses to accept a quote and EQuoTour.com automatically sends out reservation emails to the correct suppliers. Reevell of EQuoTours says there has been a lot of interest especially from small and medium-sized tour operators. He says: “The small and medium-sized tour operators do everything themselves. Our research has shown their biggest problem is that they are not responsive enough when it comes to replying to potential customers.

The response time is very important if you don’t want to lose customers and income.” According to Reevell, a medium-sized tour operator will need eight to ten people just to do quotes. He says: “This is a huge cost without guaranteed income. EQuoTour offers a solution to this cost.”

Illegal Guide Inspections

Dear Tourist Guide The Department of Economic Development and Tourism through the Tourist Guide Registration Office is busy rolling out a series of illegal guiding inspections.

Inspections kicked off during the month of June and will carry on until March next year. The Department appointed dedicated inspectors to conduct random inspections at key attractions throughout the province and so far more than 200 guides have been inspected. The objectives of the inspections are: · to curb illegal guiding activities in the Western Cape · to create awareness amongst the general public and visitors about the use of professional and legal guides · to create awareness amongst the illegal guides about the implications of guiding illegally · to create a positive image of the guiding sector According to the Tourism Second Amendment Act, 2000, tourist guides must carry their valid ID cards with them at all times whilst guiding. Expiration dates are included on all ID cards issued to tourist guides.

Please contact the registration office on tel: 021 483 2960 or email: Registrar@pgwc.gov.za for more information on updating your registration as a tourist guide. Look out for a further update on the inspections in September’s issue of the tourist guide newsletter. Yours in tourism
